- Vitamin B-6 is used to prevent and treat low levels of pyridoxine and anemia that may result. Pyridoxine is required for the proper function of sugars, fats and proteins in the body, as well as the proper growth and development of the brain, nerves, skin and other body parts. Vitamin B-6 is also used for heart disease, high cholesterol and to reduce blood levels of homocysteine, a chemical that might be linked to heart disease.
- Folate is used to prevent and treat low blood levels of folate and its complications, including anemia and the bowel’s inability to absorb nutrients properly. Folic acid is required for the proper development of the human body and is involved in producing DNA. Folate is also used for memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, age-related hearing loss, preventing age-related macular degeneration, to reduce signs of aging and the harmful effects of treatment with the medications lometrexol and methotrexate, weak bones (osteoporosis), jumpy legs (restless leg syndrome), sleep problems, depression, nerve pain, muscle pain, AIDS, vitiligo and Fragile-X syndrome.
- Vitamin B-12 can help maintain the health of your metabolism, blood cells and nerves; it is required for the proper function and development of the brain, nerves, blood cells and other body parts. It is used for memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, to reduce aging and to boost mood, energy, concentration, mental function and the immune system. It is also used for heart disease, clogged arteries, high triglyceride levels, to lower high homocysteine levels, male infertility, diabetes, diabetic nerve damage, nerve damage in the hands or feet, sleep disorders, depression, mental disorders, schizophrenia, weak bones, swollen tendons, AIDS, inflammatory bowel disease, diarrhea, asthma, allergies, vitiligo and skin infections.
- Iron is used to prevent and treat low levels of iron and the resulting iron deficiency anemia, which is when red blood cells can’t carry enough oxygen to the body. Iron helps these cells deliver oxygen from the lungs to cells all over the body. Once the oxygen is delivered, iron then helps the cells carry carbon dioxide waste back to the lungs to be exhaled. It is also used for Crohn’s disease, depression, fatigue, infertility, to improve athletic performance and to treat ADHD and canker sores.
